May 7, 2021 – The Salvation Army Harrisburg bestowed a Hero at Home Award on Debra McClain, Executive Director of Beacon Clinic for Health and Hope. Ms. McClain came to Beacon Clinic in 2018 to lead the community-based health clinic and move the organization to the next level. Beacon Clinic is located in the historic uptown section of Harrisburg, PA. The Clinic was established to provide free primary healthcare for uninsured and under-insured adults (age 18+). Beacon Clinic’s patients speak 37 different languages and come from 46 countries. In 2020, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Beacon Clinic served 986 distinct patients, many of whom require complex, chronic disease management. Deb worked with the clinic’s medical providers and volunteers to meet patient healthcare needs in new and innovative ways during 2020 and early 2021. Beacon Clinic also ensured that patients continued to receive vital prescription medications and supplies. Deb also worked hard to coordinate vaccine clinics for neighbors and patients. Congratulations, Debra McClain, you are a true “Hometown Shero”! Thank you for your heartfelt dedication to ensure that Beacon Clinic patients receive proper healthcare, medications and vaccines. – LCR
